Rector of the Krakow Academy, Franciszek Józef Przeworski (1629-1701) confirms the statutes of the Krakow Guild of Printers.
In 1538 the court royal adjudicated that Polish printers and booksellers were under the authority of the Rector of the Krakow Academy. The court referred to the old tradition of there being supervision by universities over copyists and booksellers, and held that, since printers are the successors of these medieval occupations they should therefore fall under university jurisdiction.
