Pope Boniface IX (1356-1404), at the request of Queen Jadwiga (1374-1399) and the city councillors of Krakow, allowing the councillors to choose out of the clergy a custodian, that is a sacristan, to protect the parameters (objects) and books of the Church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin Mary in Krakow. The custodian had the duty to report to the bishop of Krakow upon his request
The document testifies to the city’s endeavours to take over the patronage of St Mary’s Church, which until then was in the hands of Krakow bishops.
