View of Krakow
Created from within the circle of the school of Michael Wolgemut (1434-1519) and Wilhelm Pleydenwurff (died 1494)
Placed in the Book of Cronicles (Liber chronicarum) by Hartmann Schedl (1440-1514), published in the publishing house of Antoni Koberger in Nuremberg in 1494.
This coloured view comes from a later edition in German Buch der Cronicken.
It is alleged that Konrad Celtis (1459-1508) was the author of the drawing which was the basis for the woodcut. The view is something between a street map and a panorama of the city, it renders a spatial arrangement of Krakow, Kazimierz and Kleparz, according to the actual location, without reconstruction of the real location or the appearance and details of the buildings.
